Slip Maintenance

From the DockMaster menu, select Marina Management > Slip Functions > Slip Maintenance

You will utilize slip maintenance to define the wet, dry, rack, and other types of rental spaces available to your customers. The slip id can be up to 8 alpha-numeric characters.

Note: The Slip Length, Slip Width, Draft, Height, and Minimum Length fields below are not required, but the Boat Placement and Customer Boat File will use the information entered to check the dimensions of a boat prior to placing it in a slip. If it is too large for the slip, DockMaster will pop up a warning, but still allow the boat placement. All dimensions should be entered in one of the following formats: 23', 23'10, 23'10" or 23.10

  • Slip / Rack ID - Enter an ID for this slip, rack, room, or land location. The ID may contain any combination of up to eight alphanumeric characters, but CANNOT contain a SPACE. The ID numbers you assign to your slips should be formatted so that they sort properly when reporting and filtering. For instance your dock and slip number range maybe A - G and 1 - 150. Tip: Use preceding zeroes in Slip ID's so that they sort properly, i.e. A001 - A009, A010 - A099, A100 and so on.
  • Description - Enter a Description of this slip / rack.
  • Slip Owner - When your slips are subleased from private owners you can enter their customer id here to designate who owns the slip. This is mostly used by marinas that sublease dockominium owned slips for use by their marina tenants.
  • Slip Type - Enter a Slip Type for this slip, rack, room, or land location. This field is meant to designate whether this slip is WET or DRY. However, you can use this field for any other three-digit designation that you see fit (e.g. LND for land, RM for room, CBN for cabin).
  • Slip Length - Enter the Length of the Slip. This should be the maximum length of a boat that can be accomodated in this slip / rack.
  • Slip Width - Enter the Width of the slip or rack. This should be the maximum width of a boat that can be accommodated in this slip / rack.
  • Draft - Enter the Draft of the slip. This should be the maximum draft of a boat that can be accommodated in this slip / rack.
  • Height - Enter the Height of the slip. This should be the maximum height of a boat that can be accommodated in this slip / rack.
  • Phone Extension 1 - Enter the first phone extension assigned to this slip or press <Enter> to bypass this field. DockMaster interfaces to several phone polling systems to: 1) apply charges to a customer’s work order based on the calls generated at the extension assigned here and 2) import telephone charges to create invoices on the customer assigned to this slip.
  • Phone Extension 2 - Enter a second phone extension assigned to this slip if applicable.
  • Minimum Length - Enter the Minimum Length of a boat that can be put in this slip. If you try to place a boat in this slip that is under the minimum length, you will receive an error message.
  • Minimum Price - Enter the Minimum Price you want to charge for this slip or press <Enter> to bypass this field. Regardless of what billing method you use for your storage bills, if a boat is in this slip the minimum price is the least amount that will be billed. Note: If there is an Override Rate in the Customer Boat file, the Override Rate will be used, regardless of if it is less than the Minimum Price.
  • Cycle – The Cycle prompt corresponds to the Minimum Price prompt. When a minimum price is entered, the user can select a cycle for the minimum charge. For example, if the bill code on the customer boat is an annual code and the cycle on the slip is $5000 minimum annual. Then, if the minimum charge on the slip exceeds what the bill code would generate, then the $5000 is billed. This functionality affects Storage Invoice Maintenance, Generate Storage Proposals and Work Order Billing code charges.
  • Location Code - Enter a Location Code for this slip or press <Enter> to bypass this field. If your company owns several marinas and needs to share slip information between the marinas, then you can set the software up to accommodate multiple locations (see Location Maintenance in System Administration). If your company has only one location, then a default location of "1" will get entered by the system. Note: Each marina must have unique Slip / Rack Ids (e.g. A001 can only exist in one location).
  • Comments - Enter Comments about this slip or press <Enter> bypass this prompt. This section should be used to enter any extraordinary problems or circumstances concerning this slip. These comments appear in the Slip Inquiry program and on reports if desired.
  • Market Rate - This is the monthly rate that the slip / rack is expected to be rented at. This rate is used by the rent roll reports for calculating the percentages and dollars difference between desired and actual rental rates.
  • Linear Slip - Click the Linear Slip box if this slip can accommodate several boats running end to end at one time. Piers and bumpered seawalls that can accommodate boats are usually marked as linear slips.
  • Unusable - Click the Unusable box if this slip CANNOT be used for storing boats. You cannot move a boat into a slip that is designated as Unusable.

The next group of prompts describes the amenities of each slip. Reservations will use these amenities in the requirements options to select an available slip for a guest reservation customer.

  • Tie Off - Click the down arrow to select a Tie Off for this slip.
  • Water - Click this box if this slip has access to fresh water.
  • Phone - Click this box if this slip has a phone jack.
  • Dock Box - Click this box if this slip has a Dock Box.
  • Cable TV - Click this box if this slip has a Cable TV jack.
  • Electric Meter - Click this box if this slip has an Electric Meter. This option will also dictate which slips are selected during the Electric Meter Reading process.
  • Transient - Click the Transient box if this slip can be selected for use by the Transient Reservations module. Leaving this box unchecked will prevent this slip from being selected when the system searches for available slips in the Reservations Entry program.

Meters Grid

The meters grid allows you to assign one or more meters for electricity, water, or any other type of meter. Meters can be assigned to the unit (boat) that resides in the slip or they can be assigned to other units nearby. Meters must be defined on a slip and must have an assigned unit in order for a reading to be entered or imported for charges.

  • Meter ID - Each meter id should be unique and can be up to 10 characters long.
  • Meter Type - There are three meter types available in the dropdown list, Electric, Water and Other. The default is Electric when adding new meter ID's to the slip.
  • Charge to Unit - This cell is used to designate the unit that is currently assigned to the meter. Normally it is the same unit that is in the slip however another unit can be assigned to the meter if it is not currently assigned. Note that when you arrive a boat into the slip through boat placement or reservations if the meter is not assigned the boat being arrived will be automatically assigned to the meters.
  • Voltage 1 & 2 - These cells contain the available voltages for the meter in a dropdown list. They are only available when the meter type is electric.
  • Amps 1 & 2 - These cells are free form, and you can enter the amperages for the meter. They are only available when the meter type is electric.
